Sam rarely had days off these days because of being a SHIELD higher up agent. When he was younger he often snuck out and that got him into trouble on occasions. ONe time Rider saved his but and then Captain America did another, over time he managed to mature and not sneak off as often as he used too. Since his younger days some would've said Sam changed a lot over the years. Some things he took a lot more seriously like being a super hero and going on missions of course he on occasions cracked jokes, but that was more or so the web warriors who did it, they seemed to have a lot of funny moments in their enjoyments.
...Inspeaking of web warriors that felt like it hit him with a ton of bricks as he sighed finding himself wanting to stop as he thought about things here. He hadn't seen Anya since Christmas and that had been a couple of weeks almost a month already. He really was wondering how she was doing these days. Was she still around? She had to be at this point, he hadn't gone snooping in SHIELD files to see if they had anything on her, she probably was one to stay under even SHIELD's radar for that matter.
"Give me a break I doubt she wants to see me." He said crossing his arms as he watched the humans going passed about their daily work or chores that they were doing in New York. Things seemed quiet for now among the streets as the older Nova watched them from above. If he did see Anya he had a ton of things to tell her, the most recent one was his father had returned and he was recovering before he went back home to his home town in Arizona. He also wanted to tell her-He cut his thinking off in that, his thoughts going a mile a minute as he couldn't get Anya out of his head. He was frustrated! Here he was finding himself alone and wanting to see her with all of the Nova force he could muster, yet he felt like they were galaxies apart. 'Here I go with all these negative thoughts again.' He thought to himself there was clear frustration even in his body as his nova force was around him too.
Honestly, Anya had found herself surprisingly busy as of late, both in her hero and civilian lives. As a civilian, Anya had obligations to her gymnastics class and being an instructor, so she often found herself quite busy with that. Especially when the winter break was over so she had to work on scheduling, funding, and looking at new applicants while some of those on the team had either graduated or one or two had decided they no longer wanted to continue lessons.
And now, in her hero guise, Anya had lately found herself having to team up with the Spider Society on occasion to keep the Sisterhood of the Wasp in check once more. Albeit, she mostly kept her distance from them and SHIELD still despite slowly working her way back into the superhero community. Still, she was taking a little break from her busy life to swing around New York City, so far having not met any of her fellow spiders or any other heroes. Instead, she had been swinging along to enjoy the day, her earbuds playing louder than probably necessary, and her eyes only scanning the area for trouble as she went.
But it was as she was moving across some roof tops, getting ready to swing once more, she noticed the familiar blue that easily gave Sam away. He might as well have been a flying beacon, easily seen from miles around. Several months back, Anya probably wouldn't have bothered after their argument, but slowly things had began to settle between them, to the point they were friendly once more. Yet, she had been a bit embarrassed to see him again after the quick kiss to his cheek back on christmas, which she still once more didn't know why she had done it. That was the second time she had done so spontaneously towards Sam, but she knew it was summed up to the feelings she held for him. Might as well try at least.
Changing direction of where she had been headed, Anya jumped across a few gaps before she reached Sam, removing her earbuds in time enough to hear his remark, causing her to smile slightly. "You have no idea how wrong you are." Anya spoke up, firing a web to his shoulder and giving it a small yank to turn Sam around to face her, a small smile on her face as she lifted her mask.

Sam felt something hit his shoulder as he looked down ready to react, he half expected it to be Kaine, Miguel or even Spider-Man for a second. But when the blue blip appeared on his radar he knew it wasn't then when he heard her voice. It was Anya. The anger quickly faded more into frustration but at the same time he was happy to see Anya for a change. But he knew there was no way of hiding it now it was out in the open. "Anya! It's good to see you." He said doing everything he could to restrain himself from giving her a big bear hug, sometimes he underestimated his strength as a Nova, he had learned he could lift up to several tons with ease with his helmet. His 25 year old self as a normal civilian might've not been able to do that so easily.
"Is it alright if we just talk for a bit? I'm not running around with SHIELD today I took a break to get some fresh air and freedom too." Sam said not knowing where to begin but he knew he wanted to tell her a lot. He remembered the webbing was still on his shoulder and carefully peeled it off knowing he'd look silly with that on him as he flew about, but he thought he heard Kaine saying that the webbing usually melted after an hour or two of use.
"I did want to say that I found my dad with Brandi's help. We found him on one of the neighboring planets. His name, is Jesse he wasn't in the best of shape when we found him so we were letting him recover at the hellicarrier...he's so thin you can see his bones." Sam said with a sigh knowing that was the biggest news on his end. But there was one other thing he wanted to say. He wanted to scream at Anya saying that he loved her, but he didn't want to go first. He didn't want to make a fool of himself if she said no. But his heart said otherwise as he looked back at her wondering what she had to say. "And I'm sorry for our fights earlier. I know I am not the best person to get along with sometimes." He added pretty much blurting that last part out, sometimes his thoughts ran a mile a minute.
"Good to see you too Sam." Anya said with a smile, rubbing the back of her neck since she found herself feeling nervous. This was the first time in a while they had actually been alone, not since confronting one another on the Helicarrier and Brandi had to get involved to make sure they didn't tear each other apart. She still felt deeply guilty for those events since she felt her attitude had been the result of why they had been at odds lately.
"Oh, of course. I've been meaning to talk you anyway." Anya admitted as she moved closer to Sam, but she paused for the moment to hear him. She was surprised they had found his father who she knew had been missing for years now. That certainly had to be a relief for Sam, but it made her look away as she felt the old bitterness and deep guilt for being the one to cause the loss of her father's life. She almost missed the rest of what he said but she still forced herself to listen, frowning at hearing how bad Jesse's conditions were.
But, she finally forced herself to look back at Sam, giving a faint smile. "Sounds like you've had more luck than I have recently Sam." She told him, finally moving in and embracing him a bit tightly, but was careful not to hug him too tightly. Honestly, she almost didn't want to leave him this time considering their past arguments had made it difficult before. "And none of that was your fault Sam, it was mine, I haven't been the same for a few years now and I took a lot of that out on you and the others." She sighed, pulling back just slightly to look at the young Nova. "Truth be told, I care a lot about you, and I never should have snapped the way I did. I just...its hard for me to be the social teenager you guys once knew."
"I don't know if I'd call it luck, Anya thing is we found my dad just by chance really." Sam admitted knowing that if he had gone just a bit further along the space route they might've missed him competely they would've been on a wild goose chase as far as he was concerned. But with the Nova helmet picking up the signal and locking on to it that had been their ticket to finding him.
Sam listened to Anya as she spoke, the both of them apologizing and it made him feel a bit better, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. She came in, gave him a hug and he accepted it immediantly. He put his own arms around her but was careful with his Nova strength. He had recalled the last few times he attempted to hug her he had her in a tough bear hug. For a 25 year old that might've been a bit of a surprise.
"It's alright Anya I think a lot was going on for a lot of us." Sam said knowing the next part was unavoidable. "Anya do you think we could ever be boyfriend and girlfriend? I understand if you don't and I'll move on. Truth be told I haven't had much luck with girlfriends in the past. I had one in high school but she dumped me before I left to go work with SHIELD." Sam said with a shrug. "Oh and to add to that, if you remember Spider-Man 2099, or Miguel he and Brandi are going out as a couple now. I guess it worked for the both of them." Sam added, but he couldn't help but wonder, would it work for them?
“Finding him by chance or my intent Sam, you’re still pretty lucky to have found him at all. That’s what counts.” Anya told him. Least in her opinion it was better than nothing, especially when he had not seen Jesse in so long. It probably was an emotional reunion for father and son despite any chaos that probably resulted, because normally there was always something that happened wherever they went.
But, Anya was surprised by such a direct question. Well, as surprised as she would be, since Sam usually was quite direct with his words and questions. She carefully brushed a hand over the necklace Sam had given her back on Christmas, having had a feeling that their feelings were mutual but unspoken, and how they had nearly lost any such opportunity. “I can’t say for sure Sam.” She admitted with a soft sigh, gently stepping back, and turning away, moving to the roof edge, looking out at the area of New York they were located. “To be honest, I haven’t exactly been the best at relationships either. That night we fought the All-Mother of the Sisterhood of the Wasp I was suppose to be on a date, but things didn’t exactly work out obviously.”
To be honest, Anya wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. She knew she wanted to be with Sam but at the same time a part of her feared actually putting him in genuine danger. ‘He’s handled worse, he’d probably be the easiest choice. Not someone living a civilian life.’ Anya thought, taking a deep breathe and finally turning back to him. “I won’t say it’s a definite yes, but…we can try Sam. See how things go.”

“I understand that night had been rough on both of us. Even Scarlet Spider looked worn out from that fight we had.” Sam admitted knowing that Kaine hid his feelings a lot. Beneath all that grumpiness that was there and the added stubbornness, Kaine was just as human as the others were. He felt almost as if Anya wanted to say no but he didn’t want to jump to conclusions like he had done so many times in the past. It had coasted him, and he didn’t want him to lose a relationship here just because of a misunderstanding. He and Brandi on occasions got into them but most of the time they settled them really easily. He did notice as his green eyes fell upon her chest that she did have her necklace that he had given her at Christmas. That was right before Sam flew up with Brandi to get their father back.
“You’re still wearing it I see.” He said as a soft smile came to his face, if anything he hoped that meant that they were still friends. When Anya said yes to his questions he was glad to see that they were on better terms. He was glad that he was at least given a chance, and if it didn’t work he’d move on and he knew that Anya would too. “Thanks Anya I know I can be stubborn, even a bit annoying at times but I will do my best.” He said as he felt some tears come but he rubbed his eyes hoping that Anya wouldn’t see them. “I’m not crying!” He demanded stubbornly. “Nova’s need to show that they’re strong that’s what I said to Rider once.” He blurted out. "I will try to be a good boyfriend. I've seen too many relationships on SHIELD get torn apart because the stress and demands of the job there." Sam admitted knowing they were both super heroes, they had two lives, but they understood what was going on there. They didn't have to hide any secrets between them.
“Anyways on another topic that night we did fight, I left in tears almost and flew towards the statue of liberty. She doesn’t say a whole lot but it was neat being up close to her. I think I scared a few civilians by hanging out on her crown, it was better to think straight there. I didn’t go home to SHIELD until about 1 in the morning.” He admitted, as he probably just sounded like a blubbery talking mess to Anya right now. If Brandi saw him like this, she’d probably tell him to toughen up at least and not act like a cry baby, that’s what he thought anyways. Brandi had a good side too. “I think if we do have any fights… We can always sort them out and talk.-“ He said realizing he might’ve said too much as he knew to be quiet by now to give Anya a chance to talk too.
Anya visibly cringed at recalling that night. It was one of her less shining moments, where she had completely lost control and had tried to go after the All-Mother on her own and actually took the lives of some of her warriors. It was one of the few times Anya held no care, no qualms in killing, going so far as to force one of the warriors to go right after their queen so she could take the All-Mother down once more. But if not for Sam and Kaine, she probably would be digesting in the mutant wasp's insides by now. And image that made her inwardly shudder before she turned her thoughts back to Sam.
When Sam commented on the necklace, Anya couldn't help smiling. "Well, someone pretty important to me gave me it, I'd be in bad taste to not wear it." She said with a slight grin, but it slowly faded as she listened to Sam, giving him a sympathetic look. He was rambling, but it seemed he was pretty overwhelmed by past experiences and of their fights in the past, some of which she felt more than responsible for. Despite showing signs of starting to tear up, Anya didn't hesitate to throw her arms around Sam and embrace him a bit tightly, trying to reassure him everything would be fine.
"Sam, there's nothing wrong with crying. Everyone cries, especially the strongest people." She told him, looking him in the eyes with her own. "And trust me, we're both stubborn and we have our moments, but I promise to be better with actually talking instead of biting your head off." She assured him, giving him a half smile. "Truth be told, I've done plenty of crying the past few years myself. Because to be honest, I-I lost what remained of my family, my friends, and I've been trying to push through the pain. That was why I left SHIELD, why I've been so...different." Anya finally professed, unable to stop telling him but somehow finding herself holding back tears. Because by now, Anya felt like she had spent all her tears and all she felt was sadness and pain.
Sam was a bit taken aback by the hug but he did embrace it. He knew Anya and himself had been through a lot the last few years, in fact maybe their entire life. His father who had been missing for some of it had been a big blow, but now he was back. They had fought many fights and they were all lucky that they came out on top because they fought and came out on top. He gladly hugged her in return but was aware of the strength he had as a Nova. Remembering the last time he hugged her it had been far too tight of one.
"I am sorry to hear that, Anya I know loosing family members can be really hard and tough...at one point I thought my dad was dead. But my helmet had said otherwise." Sam admitted knowing that things were hard. "But you can always talk to me...In fact...It's a bit odd but neat at the same time. Miguel, Spider-Man 2099 and Brandi cypress, and I have formed a bit of a trio over the years. We have gone on a lot of missions together. But if you ever wanted to come with us feel free to ask." Sam said. "Of course that is... If you're up for it." He added knowing that SHIELD might be a bit of a touchy subject.
"Before you leave is it ok if we go on a quick...Uh run and fly through New York at least? I wanted to bring you to one of my favorite spots in New York. Heck you can see her from here." Sam said just barely seeing the crown of the statue of liberty right there through the cracks of the buildings in New York as Sam pointed a gloved hand in the direction of where he was. "You know that last fight we had? I actually spent a couple of hours there trying to clear my head there." He admitted. "And I'm sorry if I was a jerk that night." He admitted as he looked down at his feet looking a bit guilty.
"Its even harder Sam when you're the one directly responsible for their demise. The Sisterhood of the Wasp took them hostage, and despite everything I did they were killed in the crossfire and my previous partner, Miguel Leager, died giving me the last bit of his magic to enhance my abilities." Anya explained to Sam, turning her gaze away once more. It was incredibly difficult for her to talk about and all she could ever picture in her mind and her nightmares was her father's last words and his final breath as she held him in her arms.
Shaking the memories away, Anya listened to Sam and his offer to rejoin her old SHIELD allies at some point. It was still a touchy subject, but not like it use to be, not with her gradual relaxing around visiting the Helicarrier a few times as of late. "I have gotten more comfortable being around SHIELD again Sam, but it may be sometime before I still consider working with any of its members so closely again, with a team that is." She told him. Another reason she was so reluctant to join a team again was her own fear of messing up once again. Not that she would ever admit that much to Sam, not right now.
Turning to look at where Sam was pointing, Anya could vaguely make out the crown of the Statue of Liberty. "We could, but the question is can you keep up firefly?" Anya teased him with a small grin, trying to get past the depressing memories. She was honestly glad for the distraction as she let go of Sam. "Keep up if you can, Sam!" Without much warning Anya sprinted to the edge of the roof they had been standing upon before she leapt right off, using her momentum to get a fair bit of distance before she shot some webbing, swinging off towards the next building.
Firefly? Well it was better than being called bucket head. It was one of his many nicknames, nova boy, starfish, star head it probably went on and on as far as he knew. Sam had befriended several SHIELD agents including Miguel and Brandi. He was certain that Anya would remember Miguel. She probably knew him as a teenager while he was learning his powers but he certainly had grown up over the years and learned how to use his powers correctly. She might notice the differences when she last saw him. Not to mention that Brandi and Miguel were engaged now he wondered how she'd react to that? "Well I've been called worse." He said with a chuckle. "Heay wait up!" Sam called before he could say anything else, he realized that Anya was quickly ahead of him, leaving him in the dust.
"I will not loose!" Sam called out with a determined look on his face. He felt a surge of Nova energy go through him as he flew forward as fast as he could. If Anya was challenging him to a race he at least better give it all he could. Sam could be seen by the civillians down below, but he really didn't care at this rate. They probably saw him and were in shock or surprise to see a human flying through the air at high speeds. It was something they'd have to get used to soon because there were a lot of super heroes that could fly, Sam wasn't the only one.
"Heay I see the Statue of Liberty from here, we're getting closer." Sam said through his communication link towards Anya. "Oh yeah Anya I forgot to tell you, you remember Miguel O'Hara? He is Spider-Man 2099. Last I heard from him and Brandi the two of them are engaged I think we need to hurry up too!" He said with a half hearted chuckle on the last part. If anything he was only teasing Anya and maybe pulling off a slight distraction while they flew. Whatever it was he wasn't sure if it worked or not. But he also knew Miguel was from the future, it must've been hard since he knew Miguel couldn't reveal anything from his time, let alone get involved in certain things since he could change his future.
Anya at first didn't pay much attention to Sam's responses to not being slow. She knew Sam could easily beat her if he wanted to, all he had to do was fly right over the buildings at the right height and it would be no competition at all. She sometimes wondered if he forgot that, or just didn't want to expend the energy. But with being older now and more skilled with using the Nova force, Anya figured that wouldn't exactly be a problem any longer, or Sam just liked a challenge in testing how quickly he could maneuver around the buildings.
Either way, Anya didn't say much as she moved around and across the buildings, mixing her gymnastics, reflexes, and use of her webbing to get around rather easily. She knew New York well enough it wasn't much of a problem getting around, especially if she was in her usual neck of the woods of Brooklyn.
But, as she was swinging from the next building, once more Sam chimed in and was surprised by the words that came through. "Wait they're what?" Anya was so surprised by the news she found herself swinging right towards a metal wall causing her to gasp softly and quickly form her carapace, grunting as she collided with the metal surface that bounced right off from the collision and threw her back a few feet. "Not funny Sam!" Anya called over the communications, quickly retracting her carapace and firing a few webs between two building corners, catching herself just in time to avoid the ground and sling shotting herself into the air with relative ease. But, it was more than enough to give Sam the head start.

Sam had tried to make it a bit of a surprise and it appeared that part of it had worked. He chuckled a little bit but that was when he realized that he heard a loud bang noise. He realizedd Anya might've been hurt but after hearing her voice come through the communication link that he had in his helmet she sounded more annoyed than anything. "I didn't mean to make you crash maybe slow down yes, but not crash!" Sam explained as he winced recalling many times in the past as he had to work on his own landings. Flying was fun and all but not when you landed and did a face plant on the ground, you'd be left with bruises for months and would remember that.
"But yeah what I said earlier, Miguel and Brandi are getting married, I haven't heard if there is a date set up or anything yet, but the rumor has been going around SHIELD for awhile now." Sam pointed out as it was like him to listen in on what other SHIELD agents had to say. Rumors or not some of the info that the other agents talked about was interesting. Not to mention something rather not useful information, but funny for a possible prank for finding out where Fury keeps his eye patches locked up in his office!
As Sam flew over some of the buildings he could see that the statue of liberty was getting closer, "We're going to hit water soon, do you want a lift from me? Otherwise you might be taking a swim or going on a ferry." Sam offered knowing that Anya probably didn't want the first option of swimming in the water it was too cold even for this year when summer was coming so soon. Maybe in the summer weather it'd start warming up for boaters to actually enjoy it. "That is unless you have another way of getting across?" He asked wondering if Anya was thinking of an idea and it might catch him off guard.
"Lucky for you, I have my carapace to take most of that collision." Anya assured him, despite knowing she probably could easily have taken that collision either way. She herself had greater durability after all so it would have been too bothersome. She just would have been sore after a bit. Still, she had recovered rather quickly, rushing along the rooftops at decent speeds and leaping across gaps in between the buildings without a second thought. Luckily, her reflexes and agility were still sharp as ever despite having been a bit rusty since quitting heroics a few years ago.
"Shame I can't really go unfortunately. I got too much going on in my civilian life to make time to go to a wedding, but make sure to get some pictures for me." Anya told him. She was quite happy for two of their friends and allies getting together, knowing Kaine had done the same with Katherine a little while back as well. Not to mention they had kids now as well. Though as they got closer to the water, Anya merely grinned to herself, firing off a web to swing along one of the buildings coming on towards the ocean. "Come on Sam, I may not be a SHIELD agent anymore, but I'm always prepared."
As if on cue, a sky-cycle, the same one she had used to visit SHIELD months before, came flying right on time in their direction, having called it at some point along the run. With a final swing, Anya launched herself as high and far as she could get herself, using her momentum to soar through the air for a bit before meeting the sky-cycle right on time as it slowed in pace enough to allow her to land in the seat. 'Gotta love auto-pilot.' She thought, revving the engine before kicking on the engine into high speeds once more, glancing around to try and find Sam.
"I will make sure you see the pictures, Anya. I think Miguel would've wanted you to come but I'm sure he'd understand." Sam said knowing that Anya still had to patch things up...maybe...that was a big maybe. As Sam flew over the water, he turned his back towards the Statue of Liberty reminding himself to slow down before running into the ground or right into the statue. He wanted to see what Anya was up too as he saw that she was getting a sky cycle out, of course SHIELD handed those out to any one of the members of the group so it didn't surprise him one bit that Anya had one from her SHIELD days. heck even Sam could've gotten one but he flew under Nova Force Power.
"I'm over here Anya! Follow the blue light!" Sam said as he noticed that she was probably looking for him. In the dim light of the night his blue color probably stood out. Though how she saw him was something else, she might just see his blue light and that was all. Regardless, he turned around again as he let his body glow a bit brighter so she could see it. By now his eyes were bright blue as the force was strong, but Sam had to be careful not to take too much energy, otherwise Anya would be dragging him back to shore.
"I'm going to touch Lady Liberty's torch and it won't burn me! watch! In fact I could probably light it up." Sam said with a chuckle as he flew forward and went straight up as he saw the green woman come into view. He continued to climb as he got closer and closer, he was hovering right above the torch. Everything seemed so tiny up here as he thought about it. But New York would always be his second home next to Arizona and the Hellicarrier....Maybe that was his third home? Regardless of what it was, he waited patiently for Anya to hurry up and get closer, he had beaten her this time if it was a race.
