Look Towards the Brighter Side (Lila)

Surprisingly Sam's bones and muscles hadn't ached in a long time, his body had gotten used to the training. The leash that he once had was no longer as tight as it once had been from SHIELD. He enjoyed the freedom as he went out to the basics, even if he was a bit older he found himself skateboarding down one of the side walk as he went about his own buisness. He had a backpack behind him with his helmet in case he needed it. The Nova helmet was the basis of his powers and it sure did change his life from being a normal Arizona desert boy to a super hero pretty much in a couple of years.

Still he felt his mind wandering on a few subjects. The first one was his dad was missing, the most important one. He had been bugging SHIELD to death to try and let him visit Saturn it should only take him a couple of days if he went by himself. Still SHIELD didn't budge especially with the work load that they had these days.

The second part of his thoughts went back to his recent encounter with Anya, she kissed him one night unexpectedly and he felt so stupid and so foolish in front of her he found the lack of not being able to talk really really hard. He sighed, why did love have to be so complicated sometimes? It seemed like it came easy for Jesse and his mother but that was another story. Jesse was an experienced Nova and had to unfortunately leave for times to go out into space to be the outer space police officer. Help in various problems. He missed his father, and regretted all those bad things he had said towards him.

"Life isn't always easy I guess, if I have to go out on my own I'll do that." He said but he didn't realize at first what was about to happen. Sam felt his skateboard go flying down one of the hills and he was flung from it. Luckily the young man managed to grab a hold of something as he found himself clinging to a bike rack. That was the good part to it, since he landed himself in the hospital for hitting his head pretty bad, luckily it wasn't going to happen this time. "Gee you think I'd learn from doing something like that." He said feeling embarrassed if anyone was watching they would've seen it. It was clear that was enough to snap him back in to reality as he saw how far he had gone from his starting point.

Lila who had been undoing her bike chain took notice of when a man who had been skate boarding near the the bike watched as he fell off the board and got hold the bike rack to keep from hitting the ground. Lila stood up and was wondering if she should  laugh or check on the person. So Lila decided to take the nice path and go and check on the man.

Lila walked over to the end of the bike rack and started to speak up."Hey man are you okay? Do you need some help?" asked Lila. As Lila waited she wonder if maybe the man could have hit his head on the metal.

But she heard the man speak to himself and notice the fact he didn't seem to hear her speak. Lila went and tapped the man on the shoulder in order for him to notice her and and so she double check and make sure he was okay. "You Okay bro?"

"Uh? Sam heard someone talk to him as he looked back noticing there was a younger girl asking if he was alright. She had probably seen him fly into the bike rack and that was pretty embarrassing. The girl if he had to guess looked like she was in her older teens, that was about the same time that Sam started using his powers with the Nova Helmet. It took him a bit to get his bearings but he did respond to her. "YEah I'm alright." He said brushing himself off in case he had any dirt and from the looks of things he didn't have any injuries on him which was a good sign.

"I guess I just had my head in the clouds, sorry if I startled you or anything." Sam admitted. Then he realized he forgot something, "My name is Sam Alexander by the way. I came down from being at work all day to get a break. I'm a SHIELD agent at this point." He said taking out a familiar batch that had the SHIELD agent insignia on it which was a large eagle with the worlds SHIELD attached to it. He also had an card identification that showed his name printed on it and his code name too which was Nova. Though little did he know Lila had already run into another SHIELD agent and one he was aware of from the first part of the Web Warriors when they were created.

Lila looked at the badge and listened as Nova talked. Lila stood there for a few moments and was wondering since when has her little hometown had become a beacon for superheroes and agents of shield. Lila couldn't believe that Nova was really here on break or something like that. The reason why she found it so hard to believe was past experience with people coming an looking for her dad or playing babysitter for her family. The only time she would believe it was only if it was close family friends visiting and sometimes even then they were visiting for her dad's job.


Lila sighed and crossed her and let a slight frown cross her face."Well I'm glad your okay and not hurt but however you should be more careful and pay more attention to your surroundings dude cause if I had been the bad guy you would have been so dead right now."said Lila. After she got done talking it took Lila a second to realize that she had just lectured a adult and stranger she had just mostly like seemed like she was a very rude kid or something.


"I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm being rude and stuff. I'm Lila by and from what your card said your name is Sam,right?"said Lila.

"Excuse me?" Sam asked having heard this lecture before when he was younger. He knew many of the older SHIELD agents had told him to watch where he was going. Half the time he tuned them out except when you were around the director...Anyways that was another story that he didn't exactly what to think about right now. He did relax a bit as Sam heard her apologize that was at least a better tone than the one earlier, maybe they just started on the wrong foot? The same could've been said for him and Anya earlier, and he still couldn't make heads or tails of what had happened back there with the two of them. He was shocked, confused, and still unsure if he'd ever be able to get Anya to change, or if he was just at a loss.

"It's nice to meet you Lila." He said with a soft nod. "I often come here on breaks or to get away from the work scene since it can be hectic. Though New York is nothing like my home town in Arizona. There it's really hot in the summer months." Sam pointed out knowing he was probably going to go back there once holidays came again so he could go visit his mother and sister. Still there'd once again be an empty spot for his father who might not be there, and it wasn't the same.

"So do you live around here, Lila? You don't have to answer if you don't want too, I figure it could be a little small talk." He added seeing that it might be nice to know someone who wasn't in SHIELD for a change. And he was trying to be a bit friendly since New Yorkers sometimes were mean if you stepped on the wrong toes.

Lila raised an eyebrow and as she listened to Sam speak. After she got done listening to him talk Lila herself started to speak.   "Yeah I'm from around here  I live on a farm just outside of town here and also I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe that you come to my little home town for a small break. So how hot does Arizona  get and also did you know Bella from the Twilight series was original from Arizona in the books. Have you ever seen the movies or read the books for twilight."said Lila.


Lila then waited on answers to her questions. As she waited for Sam to speak Lila reached into her hoodie pocket and pulled out a piece of bubble gum and then she unwrapped the bubble gum and popped it into her mouth and started to chew. She then put the empty wrapper into her hoodie pocket."I have more bubble gum, do you want some?"asked Lila.

"It gets pretty hot in Arizona, I know one time we got a record of 108 degrees, I'm glad my mom put in air conditioners 'cus we would've baked alive." Sam responded with a soft shrug as he noticed that Lila was starting to ask questions and he didn't seem to mind it all that much. "And no I didn't know that, I don't really read all that much to be honest." Sam admitted since reading wasn't something he had done, perhaps rebelling in so much homework that had piled up on his plate when he was younger. He wasn't the best student but he knew when he had to actually start being serious about things. Luckily for the most part, his schooling days were over unless he wanted to go to college.

"Yeah I like bubble gum, is it alright if I have a piece? I just got to remember not to eat it while I'm flying or I'll choke on it." Sam said realizing he already spilled the beans on what he was doing. He wasn't the best at keeping his identidy a secret, but he felt like he could trust Lila, she seemed like a decent kid.

"Aw man there I go running my mouth again." He said taking off his back pack and opened a bit so Lila could peek inside. "I am apart of SHIELD because of the super powers I have. I have a helmet that let me fly real fast and a variety of other powers. I go by the code name Nova." he explained. "But try not to tell anyone about it, you know the whole 'secret identity thing.'" He explained wondering how Lila would think of this. Inside his backpack was the black nova helmet that he and at one point his father wore a it had a four pointed star on it marking his Nova Corps rank which seemed to be middle ground from the looks of things.

"Well I know now to take Arizona off the list of places to visits when I grow up." said Lila. After she got done talking she heard Sam started to talk again.


Lila was took by surprise as she listen to Sam talk. It wasn't the fact that he asked for gum that had caught her off guard it was the fact that he just said he could fly. She handed him the piece of gum all the while just staring at him.


Lila however couldn't believe what she was hearing. He was still talking about his powers and he was part of shield. Lila was just standing there staring at him with a piercing stare. On the inside Lila can't decide if he was joking or he was not very bright an what she could study from him she could see that he was telling the truth so Lila ended opening her mouth to speak."Your just a regular Albert Einstein aren't you. Believe me you don't have to worry about me telling anyone cause I think you have that covered."said Lila with sass in her tone.

"New York sure can get hot but not near as bad as Arizona. Sometimes we end up getting thunder storms that last a long time unfortunately." Sam admitted but the good thing about the thunderstorms were that they brought some severely needed rain. The worst thing would be possibly getting a drought or something while they were out there. And that was never good. From the looks of things his mother and sister were doing alright and that was fine with him.

"You don't believe I can fly do you? I can tell in the tone of your voice. And no I'm not smart like Tony Stark or the other ones. I'd say I'm about average." Sam said with a shrug. What could be hurt risking it out here? Sam loved to show off what he could do so maybe he could do a little bit here. He took out the black nova helmet before putting it on his head and the uniform seemed to come out of no where as he was dressed in similar gold. His eyes lit up a bright blue from the nova force as it activated and he hovered just above her. "How about now? I'm hovering about two or three inches off the ground with ease." He said knowing that Lila was probably having a hard time to believe this. Wait until she heard him say that he had gone into space and back!

Despite Lila's skepticism he half wondered if he and her could be friends. He had managed to make friend with Brandi who was a demon hunter in SHIELD and as well as Anya... Sort of, anyways. That area was still fuzzy to him. He didn't want to think about it just yet. But maybe having another friend might do him some good, and bring him back down from earth.

Lila stood their taking in all that Sam was saying and stuff. While she was interested in the info that he was giving about Arizona she was more interested in the fact that this Sam guy who is superpose to a be surperhero was given info with a care, she was questioning if this guy was sane or not.

"Not to be rude and sounding like I'm judging or that I didn't believe you but I am and was questioning your sanity because WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU GO SPILLING YOUR SUPER HERO SECRETS TO SOME ONE YOU JUST MEET? ARE YOU CRAZY MAN? WHAT WOULD YOU DONE IF I WAS A BAD GUY?"said Lila in a loud whisper.


Lila looked up at the man floating above her. "Dude don't get me wrong it's cool that you can fly like Thor but if you don't get down here and stop floating and start acting a civilian I will tie your shoe strings together so when you do get back down to earth you will fall."said Lila.

"I heard correctly you didn't believe me that I had super powers, well here you go." Sam said if any of his friends had seen this, this should've been no surprise towards others that he was a bit of a show off. And it may have been a bit risky that he was doing the nova thing right in front of a total stranger, but he didn't see any harm in it. He had plenty of fans out there that he called the Novanaughts respectively. But he knew there were far worse heroes out there who didn't seem to care if their identity was found or not, Tony Stark to name one right off the bat. "And last I checked I'm not the only one who has been flaunting their super heroes out there." Sam said pointing to the obvious Stark Industries signs all over it with Tony's face on it.

"Fine I'll land." He said seeing that there was no reasoning with Lila. Carefully he landed without hurting her or other civillians around him. Then took off his helmet as his costume disappeared. "There is that a bit better?" He asked as he put his helmet back into his backpack where it'd be safe for now. If he ever needed it, it'd be easy to get too. Lila looked a bit annoyed from the event, but heay it was his life and powers he could do what he wanted at this point but he felt like he could make it up for her for scaring her half to death probably.

"Well how about I try to make it up to you if I scared you or something? I guess it was a bit much. Even was a bit much for me when I found out about it all with being a Nova." Sam admitted wondering if Lila would take it or not. Maybe not but it was worth a try.
