Anya Corazon
PERSONALITY At one point in her life, Anya was one of the most up-beat, positive person someone could ever meet. During her teenage years, she always seemed to find the good things in life and never allowed someone to break her spirit nor ever seem to be down in the dumps for long. She was incredibly energetic, optimistic, and seemed to light up a room wherever she went. This part of her always seemed contagious for some and rather uplifting for others who were in a gloomy mood, a time that has passed. Nowadays, Anya has drastically changed from that happy, go-lucky teenager. Anya has mellowed out to being a little more solemn and serious than when she once was, feeling she had once been childish and allowed her head to be in the clouds too long. Though she retains her calmness and clever mind enough to be rational and think on her feet when necessary, these are often more thought out and she thinks the whole situation through rather than going in guns blazing and expecting luck to be on her side. In fact, Anya has become more blunt, harsh, and doesn't hold back much of her negativity as she once did. Anya has overall become a darker shell of what she once was, full of a darker view of the world and feeling she now sees reality for what it is after the loss of loved ones. She is less inclined to hold back from feeling what she thinks is right, even if it means going a violent path if necessary. She still believes heavily in justice and doing the right thing, but is less inclined to allow common law enforcement to handle things that'll get themselves killed. There is still some of the old Anya lying within who loves joking, smiling, and relaxing, but most often it is buried beneath the new part of her. HISTORY Anya Corazon was born in Mexico to Gilbero and Sofia Corazon. Anya was still quite young at the time during the time her family was in Mexico, her father working as an investigative journalist while her mother acted as a stay at home mother, though on the side did jobs for the Spider Society as one of their hunters. This wasn't to last however as her father's meddling in a local series of child deaths earned him trouble, to the point when he refused to give up searching for answers their house was set ablaze with Anya's mother inside. Though Anya avoided being harmed due to being at school her father was scared out of town, taking Anya with him to avoid her becoming another victim due to his job. The two eventually came to settle in Brooklyn, New York just avoiding the worst of the neighborhoods but not by much. There was plenty of those who were shady and always causing trouble while there were some families who looked out for one another, which Anya grew up around but as heavily influenced by her father and the stories of her mother. She recalled little of her mother as she grew and to keep Anya out of trouble Gilbero put her into gymnastics to keep her focused and distracted from potential street problems. Luckily, she took to it quite well, finding herself feeling at home in doing acrobatics and would come to remain with the activity for the next several years from childhood to adolescence. Eventually, Anya made it to high school without serious incident, mainly the typical issues at school and with friends, growing to be the energetic girl she once was and even back in her freshman year. Though, it was during this time that one of Anya's good friends was facing an issue with a bully who she stood up against, challenging them to fight under a bridge in Central Park. But the boy wasn't there when Anya arrived, instead there was a fight between two secret societies happening, the Sisterhood of the Wasp and Spider Society through the use of magic. One of the Spider Society, Miguel Leagar, was slightly wounded and was about to be attacked before she jumped in to save him, earning her a severe stab wound to the back of which she passed out from. Though she would vaguely see Miguel teleport the Sisterhood of the Wasp away before transferring some of his own power to her, turning her seemingly into the new Hunter and the next morning she found herself home with a blue spider tattoo on her upper right arm. Though things were normal for a time and Anya hid her tattoo from her father, it wasn't long before a day after school that the Spider Society approached her, asking her to become their new Hunter against the Sisterhood and to fight crime of which she happily agreed. After two fights though, Anya was taken to the desert to unlock her true potential, initially losing hope that she was truly the Hunter the Spider Society wanted, even becoming full of despair when wolves came to attack. But a vision of her mother telling her she would always be there to help gave Anya new strength and energy, and soon she summoned a blue carapace that allowed her to fight the wolves and eventually Miguel came to get her, taking her back to Brooklyn where she began working for the Spider Society as Arana, Spanish word meaning Spider in honor of her mother's middle name. For the next two and a half years, Anya operated as a vigilante for the Spider Society and in her own neighborhood, coming to help take on crime and keep the streets safe for the area. Eventually though her father discovered who she was when he became suspicious of the new Arana running around and seemed to coincide with her mysterious disappearances, finally confessing her mother was likewise part of the Society at one point. Though reluctant to see his daughter in such danger he allowed her to continue but when the Spider Society began to bring up their doubts due to no Hunters in the past having Anya's carapace it was discovered Anya was indeed not their Hunter after all, leading Anya to leave and transfer most of her power to Nina Smith, another candidate for the Hunter position which weakened her greatly to her current power set. After quitting the Spider Society, Anya took a break from her heroics to focus on school up until SHIELD came knocking, inviting her to join their organization along with a new costume. Shocked, she took time to think about it before deciding returning to heroics seemed just what she needed and soon came under their wing to be in espionage and hacking. She remained with SHIELD for sometime, becoming a fairly skilled agent and wound up part of the Web Warriors alongside those such as Kaine Riley, becoming close to the team and feeling they were like a second family until she turned 23 that her life changed. Her father, some friends, and Miguel Leager were taken by the Sisterhood of the Wasp as part of a plan to end the Spider Society once and for all. Anya was called in for help and she quickly came to aid Nina and the rest. She fought to save those close to her and to ensure the survival of the Spider Society. Though she managed to help save New York some of her friends and her father died in the crossfire, being unable to save them, her father dying in her arms. Miguel was no better as he used the last of his strength to empower Nina and Anya for the final confrontation, dying in the process that left Anya even more devastated. That day completely changed Anya to the point she cut her ties to SHIELD, the Web Warriors, and the Spider Society, ending her career as a hero up until recently when villainy seems once more to be returning to the world but is acting at her own accord. Powers Spider Physiology: Anya is not like most other spider heroes, rather she got her powers from a spell done by her former partner Miguel Leager of the Spider Society imbued to her through a blue spider-shaped tattoo on her upper right arm. As a result, she has been granted the following abilities: +Superhuman Strength: Despite her young age, Anya is capable of lifting 20 tons without strain, her musculature and skeletal structure being beyond the average human athlete and enabling her to easily go through most metals. But at the moment it is uncertain if this is her full limit or if she is capable of increasing this as she gets older. +Superhuman Speed: Anya is capable of moving beyond the normal speeds of the finest human athlete, being able to run at a maximum of 30-35 mph. +Superhuman Stamina: Anya is capable of doing strenuous activities or going for long periods of time without rest before fatigue toxins begin to impair her, going beyond any normal human limits. +Superhuman Agility: Despite Anya already being at the maximum flexibility for a human due to her gymnastics this is further increased with the fact her agility, balance, and bodily coordination are beyond normal. She is now extraordinarily limber with her tendons and connective tissue being twice as elastic. +Superhuman Reflexes: Anya has reflexes ten times that of a normal human, allowing her to dodge small caliber bullets, avoid most close quarter attacks, or thrown objects so long as she is aware of them. +Wall-Crawling: Anya is capable of clinging to just about any surface in the same way as Spider-man, save for the obvious exceptions such as oil, water, or other steep surfaces that prevent this. +Biological Webbing Generation: Within her wrists, Anya has a spinneret that enables her to make her own organic, silk webbing that is affected by her health and nutrition. These spinnerets are attached to specialized glands that help in it's production and the tips only seen when they are in use. The healthier Anya is the stronger her webbing where as if she was ill or sick the webbing would be weak. But she can weave these webs quite masterfully to form web slings, nets, and other things thanks to quite a bit of practice. +Spider Carapace: Unique to her spider abilities, Anya can magically summon a strong blue carapace in which increases her strength, durability, and stamina. At will, she can control it's shape, coverage, and thickness to the point she can withstand small caliber bullets and increase her physical prowess. Weaknesses +No Spider-sense: Unlike other spider-heroes, Anya lacks any form of danger sense. She gets no tingling or sense of warning that allows her to naturally react like that of the Spider-men or Scarlet Spider, but rather she relies on years of training and practice to be aware of her surroundings or some SHIELD tech she has been allow to keep. +Still Human: Despite all her abilities, Anya is still relatively human. Her spider genetics do not prevent her from needing rest, eating, drinking, or having to take down time if she gets too injured. She, unlike the rest of the spiders, has no healing factor. She is difficult to injure but she is not devoid of still being harmed or killed by conventional means. +Magic Disruption: Anya's powers come the spider tattoo on her arm, a magical mark that allows her to use her spider abilities. Any form of magic disruption can either weaken her abilities or entirely remove them, essentially leaving her human. Normal means cannot remove the mark, but magically removing the mark leaves Anya completely powerless. +Depression: After a serious loss in her heroic career that costed a few of her friends, her father, and the death of her partner in the Spider Society, Anya has been fighting depression on and off for sometime. This has caused her to retreat into herself, shun others, and go through some mood swings of anger, sadness, and recklessness, which has affected her return into the hero community. +Physical Health: Anya's physical health greatly effects her being able to use her powers to the fullest extent. Though most aren't completely affected, if she is in poor health she may be somewhat hindered in her strength, agility, and reflexes and her webbing weakens and proves to be of little effect.
