And I remember When We First Met (Katherine)

It was the weekend finally, Kaine had been resting in the apartment that evening as he was asleep in his bed, his spidey suit had been hung up in the closet where curious eyes couldn't see it right away. However papers from his testing classes were pretty much littered everywhere. He wasn't exactly the neatest person but it was clear he had been busy working away from all of those tests that he needed to take care of by Monday. Something loud rang in his ears as he woke up being startled by it and jumped out of his bed pretty much only to figure out that it was his phone going off from an alarm he had set to wake him up. "Aw man. I must've fallen asleep while grading papers again." He grumbled to himself.

After getting a quick shower, something to eat and he packed his spidey suit he quickly got his spider bike knowing that today was an important day. He locked the door as he went out in his civilian clothing to go ahead and meet up Katherine. He hoped it was alright if they met up at Central Park where they could spend the afternoon together there.

"I hope Katherine can make it here, I know going out in public isn't her favorite thing...it isn't mine either." He said pushing the sun glasses back up on his face as he waited patiently for Katherine to arrive. As he looked back at his clock on his phone it read almost 9:00am he hoped that wasn't too early. There weren't any classes or anything going on, and not to mention his spidey sense wasn't going off either.

"Well nothing bad has happened yet, at least that being the key word. I hope she's alright." He said to himself as he waited patiently hoping that she was alright. It was true Kaine was worried about Katherine. However he knew she could take care of herself. She had grown up just as he did, and their friendship meant a whole lot to him too. He also had something packed away in the spidey bike as he went over and opened one of the compartments. There was a pretty necklace with a full moon design on it that he had bought for her, there were also a few cat charms on it too but he wasn't really the type to buy these things for himself. However Katherine was special to her and he wanted to show that to her.

Katherine smiled little bit because today was a very happy day and she wanted this to perfect because it was the anniversary of when her and Kaine first met.She looked in mirror as she brushed her hair putting it into a braid and she turned knob on her inducer changing herself into her civilian forum even through when they first met she was Werecat. She knew that they are meeting at park and there is going be a lot of people there and she didn't want to frighten them.She was in fact sad that was still thing and wish that she could just go without the watch on but she knew that won't happen at least not at time.

She believes there is still people who don't like people that looked like her and was afraid that might ruin their day.She then gets on her motor bike and gets on making her way towards the park. There was no classes to today since it was the weekend after all and and they give her the day off from teaching classes.She was pretty much thought the students how to survive in wild which was something one of her many skills that she had.She got to point where she was able to go on missions with the other x-men as well which were always quiet interesting

When she got there she got off and walked until she saw him and smiled towards him.She then walked up towards him she would have greeted him with a hug but she knew he was uncomfortable with them.She then greeted him with a cheerfully smiled " hello Kaine its nice to see you "She stopped in front of him and waited for him to respond.She actually had a gift for him as well it was a crystal that she found while out in the field she had it put on necklace like a good luck charm she had it in her jacket pocket.

Kaine had gotten off the motorcycle as he waited for Katherine and it wasn't long before she arrived. She sure did look happy as he noticed that. She came up to him and gave him a giant hug, which he was used to Katherine doing it by now but other people he barely let even touch him. "Heay Katherine, you look very pretty, and long time no see I suppose." Kaine said with a soft smile. He always felt happy around Katherine as far as he was concerned. There was just something special about it as the two were able to spend more and more time together and Kaine always took that opportunity to get away from grading papers and SHIELD itself.

"That reminds me I have something for you." He said as he opened the front portion of the bike where he could store items in it. There was a hint of red from his Scarlet Spider suit could be seen but he took out the necklace charm that he had bought for her a few days ago. With SHIELD's teaching job he was at least able to afford things now. "I've got something in this box if you want to open it. In honor of our anniversary I figured it would be something really special." Kaine said.

These last few years may have been a little rough for him as Scarlet Spider, but he was not about to listen to his spidey sense go off in the middle of a meeting with his relationship ruin his day. There were other spiders out there that were on the Web Warriors. He had even turned off his communication so SHIELD wouldn't bother him like that. Unfortunately there was no way of shutting off of his Spidey sense.

"How are you doing, Katherine? Since the last time I've seen you?" Scarlet asked. "I've been busy teaching...not all the students there are exactly star pupils I'd say." He said with a sigh. Of course that could've been the same when he was younger and had first joined SHIELD. But a lot had changed since then.

Katherine was really happy at moment as she stood there and she saw he was happy which made her happy as well and she responds to his greeting " Thank you, its nice to see you as well " She then smiled when he said that he had gotten her something and waited for him to go it from his bag.She took the box and then opened it and pulled out the necklace and puts it on. she looked towards and smiled happily" Thanks I got something for you as well I I found it in this cave thought it was pretty cool it even glows in dark " She reached pocket and pulled out a purple bluish quartz she had it set in sliver.

She gives to him and smiled hoping that he would like because she wasn't too good at gift giving but she tried to give gifts from her heart and this was the best.She liked having this time to spend with not like she didn't like her job it was really hard work having to do all kinds of grading.She actually had only met a few of the newer students that were the kids of older x-men.When he asked how she was doing " I am doing very well I been teaching classes and I recently a mission I won't bore you with the details though how about you ..did you do anything interesting ?" She asked tinting her head little bit.

Kaine took out the quartz and it sure was shiny and interesting, he didn't have anything like it, but he knew it could sit by his bedside so it could remind him of Katherine. "Wow I sure do like the gem, Katherine. You have an eye to find neat and interesting objects." Kaine said as he held onto it but was careful not to drop it or loose it. "It will go on my nightstand in my apartment." He added knowing she'd like the sound of it.

He nodded as he listened to "Well it's still the same for me, I'm with the Web Warriors still and I'm doing a bit of teaching for SHIELD with the new trainees. They are sometimes a lot to handle, but I do my best to manage them." Kaine said with a soft nod as he listened to Katherine. It sounded like the both ofthem had gotten out of their shells since they first joined the X-Men for Katherine and then Web Warriors for himself. It made a lot of sense but they still had a lot to do. "Say Katherine how about we go ahead and eat some lunch? I know a good diner not far from here that has a wide range of food." He offered. "And I can pay for it too, don't worry." He said as he looked back at Katherine wondering how she thought of this. However he was a little bit worried that his spidey sense might go off, it usually did at the worst of times.

As Kaine walked with Katherine he felt his Sipidey sense started going off. That was never a good sign. Kaine looked up as a man ran passed him hitting his shoulder. "Watch were you are going!" The guy said back to Kaine. "I was watching it. You are just a clutz!" He said back and instinctively got infront of Katherine before he could throw a punch. Kaine put up his hand and blockec it. That was when he felt his mark of Kaine working.

A sharp sizzling noise could be heard and it stung both their hands. The guy let out a harsh scream of pain. Kaine was stunned. He didn't dare look back at Katherine. The bothe of them probably thought he was a freak as the guy could take much more and dropped to the ground. "Katherine, I am so sorry you saw that. You probably think I am a freak." Kaine said as guilt and fear came to him. If he were Scarlet Spider thungs might have been different.

Katherine just smiled "I'm glad you like it Kaine ..." She listen him as he talked about his team she liked hearing what was going on with him although she knew that he couldn't tell her everyone just like she couldn't.When he had offered to take her out to eat she just nodded" sure lets go "she just smiled towards him.She was usually really careful when it came to walking around since she didn't want to bump into anyone she didn't want what happened like years back that was a disaster.She just hopped that nothing bad happened at least that was what she hopped

She suddenly stopped walking when it happened this guy knocks into Kaine and she stopped pretty stunned as she watched the two guys suddenly swing punches at each other she started to back away from the fight.When the Guy went towards her direction something really bad happened she just saw a power she didn't know he had.When she suddenly heard the sizzle and the horrified scream of the man before her eyes widened when she looked straight at Kaine when heard his guilt and fear in his voice she tried to act as calmly as she could in this simulation " Kaine.....no...I..don't...it's ok.it's ok "She took him by the hand and goes to try to pull him out of there before this turns ugly knowing it would.She stopped when they had got somewhere that they could talk about this " Kaine....what..was ..that.."She was not smiling anymore as she just looked towards him with straight face.

"It is called the Mark of Kaine." The young man explained to Katherine. "I don't know much about it but its origins are unknown to me." He explained he let Katherine take his arm and they started to walk away. He knew the guy needed an ambulance he would be in the hospital for some time. "It can say I am not fond of it. My hands have been scarred so badly from it that my healing factor can't fix it. It is basically an acidic power that melts away just about anything." Kaine explained.

"Lets get away from this area Katherine and find a distraction. I just don't want to be bringng back old memories." He added as they started to move he felt his bacg hit him a bit and it reminded him that it had his suit in it. Kaine half wondered if he went in his suit it would make him feel better at the same time. However he would wait until the date was over or until Katherine let him. But he knew he was hiding behind a mask.

"How about we stop and get a smoothie first? That may help? He asked. He was fiddling through his mind to find a distraction for the both of them.

She just smiled towards him glad he was alright her heart was pounding because she was kind of stressed knowing that he was upset.She had been for so long this little thing isn't going to do anything to their relationship.She just listened as he explained about the power and just nodded little and decide it would for the best that she didn't asked farther since she could sense that he wasn't too enthused to talk much about it.She knew that his past was kind of a hard subject for him and she avoids talking about it unless he offers to do so.

When he suggested that they get away from this area she agree and said " yes lets go and we can get smoothie and go back to your apartment and order out" She waited him to agree because when they get to his apartment she could change back to her real appearance without causing problems .She actually wished that one day she could just go out without her inducer but that isn't going to happen anytime soon people are just not ready yet for people like her to be out in the open like that.

It wasn't ling before they arrived back at hia apartment, and he unlocked the door for the both of them. Light filled the rooms as his home looked more modern with the money he got from teaching at SHIELD his appartment looked a lot better when he first started out. "Make yourself at home Katherine the food should be here in about ten minutes." Kaine said and he let her get whatever she wanted since today didn't go so well. Kaine sat down on the couch and opened up his bag finding his Scarlet Spider suit still in it. He sighed and wondered if it was time he told Katherine about his past. It may even shed some light on things that happened here.

"Katherine is it alright if I told you my past? It is not exactly a nice one nor am I fond of it." Kaine said as his blonde hair slid over his scar on his right eye. "But Ithink the both of us have come a ling way on things and we've done our best to move on from the past." Kaine admitted. "And I am glad ghat we met. It think things may have been different if we hadn't met at all." Kaine added as he thought anout it he may still be in Houston trying to fight crime but it doidn't work out so he came to New York. It was much more promising.

When she got inside the apartment she walked and sits down then waited for him to talk.She just thought about his question about talking about his past something that she didn't know much about but was interested in knowing if he was willing to do so.She then nodded little bit" of course I do ,if you feel comfortable with telling me that is " She didn't want to force him because she knew it was a touchy subject to him its not like he hasn't told her much about his past she was just the type that would prefer to actually mind her own business.She waited to listen to what he would have to as her ears go into a relaxed position.

She didn't like talking about her past around people because she didn't want to sound too whiny talking about how parents weren't so kind to her it's kind of overdone and pointless.She still has the scars deep in herself from and some of them mentally and even physically but those are also hidden with layers of black fur that never really heal despite her healing factor.She herself has gotten The point of allowing people to even touch her but Kaine was always allowed ever since she met him she has learned to come more open to everyone and allowed people to come as close as she too him.She has her hands on her lap getting ready to actually listen.

Kaine sighed as he waited for Katherine to sat down, this was going to be painful. Like Katherine he had his set of scars to remind himself of what had happened in the past, and his healing factor hadn't been able to heal them. "I suppose it happened 28 years ago." Kaine added. "there was a project called KAINE in Oscorp going on where they were trying to recreate the perfect clone towards Spider-Man and most of the projects ended as failures. I was one of them, however the Rileys, which is my last name came in and adopted me before I was dismissed as a failure next. I lived with the Rileys' for about 10 years before they died tragically in a plane crash, I lived out on the streets after that, but it wasn't long before OSCORP found me again and then realized I was one of their experiments. They quickly picked up where they left off and inserted painful injections of spider venom into my blood stream where I was transformed into Scarlet Spider." Kaine said with a sigh knowing his life would never be the same after that and he knew it wasn't going to get any better.

"After the injections, I pretty much lived 9 years in a cell and was only ever able to come out to practice using my powers. I did however snap and decide to try and escape, however the first one was a failure and I got this scar on my right eye from it. I tried again a couple of months later and escaped Oscorp for good...I went down for Houston for a bit but it didn't work out, and then went to Las Vegas, I tried a couple of times to get used to those places, but I guess I found myself right back in New York with the Web Warriors, and You. Well, I think you can pick up from there, that's pretty much my sad story." Kaine said with a sigh hoping that he hadn't gotten Katherine depressed or anything. He felt sad since he remembered the Riley's and all the work that they had put in. he still wondered to this day if they'd be proud of him, and what he had become.
