Chasing Shadows (Katherine)

[Kaine Riley-Parker]

Scarlet Knew this was a dangerous game, sometimes he really wondered in the back of his mind if he was doing the right thing for being a super hero. He always felt rough and gruff compared to the others, he felt different despite being so close to Spider-Man for being a clone. He felt drawn to this area as night fell onto New York. A sense of warmth was in the air as well as he clung to a nearby building to an allyway. For the most part people wouldn't have been the wiser and dismissed it for nothing out of the ordinary but Scarlet had a funny feeling that something else was here. He had his doubts but he just wanted to try out this theory of his. He thought Katherine could come too, she had come this far along in their journey to figure out who they were this was simply another part of the puzzle.

He jumped down from the brick and onto the pavement as he walked forward, one broken brick stood out as he pressed it gently with his hand and a low rumble could be heard. Steps led down to a darker part of the basement, as he went into the secret passage. It opened up to a room that felt somewhat familiar to him. That was when a shadow fell on Kaine as he looked back noticing that he wasn't alone. "Who's there?" Kaine asked as he looked back feeling the spidey sense was going off as the sharp tingle could be felt within his head.

"Sharp as always Scarlet Spider I wasn't expecting you back so soon." A voice said behind him as a large mechanical arm came forward and grappled Scarlet towards the wall as he let out a painful yell. "Hm did you come alone?" The man asked. "I don't know who you are!" He called out trying to break free but the grip was strong as the man laughed at the words he used.

"You're in denial Scarlet, I know who you are. How could you forget your creator. Isn't that right Kaine Riley or should I say Kaine Parker?" Ock said as he finally came into view as Scarlet grumbled in annoyance and he hated to admit it but he was right. He wasn't interested in that name, his first name. "Now we have some unfinished business don't we Scarlet Spider? The day you left I continued to track you down you were a sneaky one taking refuge in SHIELD and with that invisible woman but some how I knew you'd come back. And I'm always right." Ock said as he put out another claw as he began to pull away at Scarlet's mask as he grunted to keep it on.

"Katherine stay back, I don't want you hurt!" He said hoping that his girlfriend would listen knowing she would not want to see her boyfriend hurt like this and finally he felt the mask being removed as Ock could see an older Kaine staring back at him. He felt broken and helpless.

She was investigating with Kaine to help him find out his past she had to convince him to let her come with him.She actually knew he was super protective over her but she felt that he didn't actually needed to be since she has dealt with stuff on her own as a member of the x-men. The hours though the mission they decided to meet up someone if they found anything at some point they decided split up. She had promise to be at his side as long as they live and she wanted to keep that promise she keep her training up and her own goal of more and more people accepting her as a hero.

She actually was making sure that she wasn't too far from Kaine because she wanted to be close just in case something happened but that work out that way. They had gotten too far from each other and she was searching the area quickly .When she heard Kaine shout as she got close to where he was she saw this man holding her fiance to the and ignored what Kaine just said and her and shook her head and puts out her claws threateningly and said with a low growl"let him go !!!!" she suddenly launched herself at Dr. Octopus not caring what kind of danger she was putting herself into her claws extended aimmed towards his back.

Ock yelled out in pain and instinctively Kaine felt the grip of the arm starting to fade. Using this chance, Kaine brought out his stingers as he cut through the armor with all the strength he could muster and finally broke free. That was one arm down as he got on the ground and was finally free from his grip. "I'm sorry about that Katherine I got caught off guard. But I am glad you were able to help out." Kaine said as he looked back to Ock who looked as furious as ever when he saw the two.

"I feel so angry towards you Ock angry for making me suffer all those years, angry for making the Riley's suffer and then killing them in the end!" Kaine said as he grabbed his mask and put it back on seeing that Ock had dropped it as well knowing that his identity was already well known around here.

"The reason why I made you Scarlet aren't you at all curious?" He asked.

"We were trying to build a spider army that I could control with a couple presses of the buttons. Called the Spider slayers, unfortunately when you came along someone accidentally added too much human DNA. That DNA belonged to the original Spider-Man and so you were born shortly after that. You had emotions unlike the other experiments, but we thought at first your body was so weak you wouldn't survive the venom injections. So we trashed you...but that Riley family decided that they wanted to nurse you back to health since you were born so sickly. I guess we have them to thank and to blame for taking you away." Ock explained as Kaine just about had enough as he raced forward trying to slash at Ock's arms before leaving sharp claw marks.

"You really are disgusting aren't you?" Kaine asked. "but now at least my fiance and I know what happened. I made myself different than Spider-Man without you." Kaine said with an annoyed voice. "She was and still is the light in my life in this dark place." He admitted knowing she would've liked those words for sure.
