If one thing was true, May was Peter's daughter since she had inherited his form of "Parker bad luck" Which often made her late or had serious problems of consequences later. Numerous times she had been late to class because of this and often recieved a bad mark or note from her family. Well they knew one of the reasons why she had been late in the first place. Apparently there had been some sort of tour going on at Avengers tower, it had been some time since May had been there. Her father had always held it in high regard, and as Spider-man of course he had a part time job over there of joining the Avengers and helping them on occasions.
May was in her civilian clothing with a bacpack on her shoulders it also contained the suit that she was wearing, one much similar to her father in case she needed to wear it. But that hardly seemed to be the case. This building was full up on super heroes, the odds of something bad happening here seemed slim to none.
May however managed to slip away from the group as she saw some elevators that 'were off limits' and decided to get on one to see other parts of the tower. As she went up she saw the rooms where some of the Avengers were able to stay out of sight from the public. Stark Tower was even busy up here as she saw some of the Avengers here, but she knew she wasn't exactly 'welcomed here.' by any one of them.
"I should probably go before I get into trouble." She said but she wondered if her identification with SHIELD should be enough to let her go at least with a warning. Still she was curious. May wanted to see where the training rooms where, what the Avenger's life was like. It seemed so much different than SHIELd as far as she could tell. But she knew her time would probably be up soon as someone would suspect her sneaking around.
James had been sitting in one of the security rooms, having been assigned monitor duty due to his constant attempts to train while he should have been resting. His injuries were not fully healed, but most of the bruising was gone and the medical staff said it could be any day now he could do some more than just stretching and light exercises. He honestly hated taking it easy, which couldn't be more evident on his face. The young Rogers was reclining in the chair, feet crossed and propped up on the security desk console, one arm behind his head while he sipped a soda in his other.
His eyes shifted to another monitor, seeing the visiting high schoolers, ones he probably should have been with but he preferred to school himself instead. He had gotten more than enough of it from HYDRA. Unable to help it, James typed away on the arm chair controls, running every scan possible on these kids, including family records, school records, perhaps even criminal ones, until a name popped up that caught his interest. "Parker, that sounds familiar." Sitting up normally, James looked a bit deeper into the file of May's, eyes widening with some interest when her parents' files came up, no less her father being Peter Parker himself, which James already knew who he was based on his own research of the Avengers members in the past and current. Well, if those files were available.
But when he glanced back, he realized May was gone and only a moment later he got an alert of an unauthorized person showing up in the upper floors. "Curiosity gets the spider's kid." He muttered, excited to finally have a distraction and hurrying from the room, heading to the doors and skipping down a few each time until he reached the floor he had seen May on, opening the door quietly and slipping out to come around the corner, leaning against the wall with crossed arms, "You know, its not very smart to go wandering around a place that is off limits to the general public Ms.Parker." James remarked, raising an eye brow at her, wondering what she was doing here.
As May rounded one of the corners of the rooms it didn't take long for her spidey sense to go off as the tingle was going on. Usually you would've suspected someone like a bad guy to show up, but in Avengers Tower? That seemed highly unlikely since it was full of super heroes and super powered beings. May herself was one of them as she inherited her father's spider abilities. This was a different kind of danger as she heard a young male's voice not far from her as she saw a figure that stood nearby. It was James rogers one of the younger Avengers, much like herself he came from a set of super heroes parents, at least that's what most people thought.
"I think I know who you are." She said knowing she was in trouble here for sure. But she was certain if Peter had waltzed in her as Spider-Man they would've welcomed him with open arms. But her? They treated her like a common criminal. "You're James Rogers. Out to arrest me? If my father or uncle showed up you would've probably be glad he was here. But you've come to arrest me? I think you'd be putting on bad reputation for yourselves." May said crossing her arms a bit as she watched James. Her own reddish brown hair was short but at shoulder length as it fell down that far. Plus she liked it that way as she put on her mask.
"Besides I think this could make things a bit easier on ourselves. I was just sight seeing." May added as she took out her SHIELD badge hoping he'd let her go this time. She worked with the Web Warriors, but many still considered her still learning and not as good as the other spider heroes just yet. But heay that's the reputation you got around here, right?
"For being the kid of Spider-man, you sure do jump to a lot of conclusions." James snorted in disbelief and chuckled at the same time. "If I wanted to arrest you I would have done it already. Besides, we don't arrest someone for trying to sneak off into places they shouldn't, and technically as far as anyone else here has any concern of knowing you are just a regular kid." James pointed out, pushing himself off from the wall and approaching his fellow hero and teenager, but his eyes quickly fell to her SHIELD badge. Yea, flashing that around will earn her a lot of points.
Apparently she never got the memo few SHIELD agents were really welcome. "Yea, that SHIELD badge don't mean squat for most." He told her truthfully, "Least not with the Avengers, a lot of bridges burning and not so many good experiences." He explained but turned his gaze back to her own. But he simply shook his head, "Seriously though, you're attempting to come up here during the middle of a school field trip, so yea you would be in trouble unless there was actual trouble. You don't live here and your identity is suppose to be a secret I'm guessing. If you're expecting royal treatment or a welcoming committee you're not exactly going about it the right way." He would be one to talk from experience of course. He had gone about coming to the Avengers in the wrong way and luck had been on his side. May, probably not so much.
"Honestly though, couldn't kill you to maybe just knock next time? SHIELD clearance would have gotten you entrance or just being a Parker would allow you to be welcomed with open arms. Your father and mother are respected in the superhero community, especially your dad." James added, gesturing for her to walk with him. If she was anything like the rest of the hero teenagers she probably wouldn't be deterred of being caught, not unless it had been one of the adult Avengers. "Not exactly an easy legacy to keep up with I'm sure."
"Tell me about it not many people are fond of SHIELD even if the Web Warriors are apart of them." May added. She couldn't help but think of all the bad rep that her father had gone through as a hero. Most of it came from J Johna Jameson who would loudmouth about Spider-Man being a bad guy across town and so the whole new york area could hear about it. Even if there are some bad mouthers out there he still did what he did best and that was being a her. May was going back of course before someone noticed that she was missing that'd be a serious problem if someone found out. They were supposed to leave at around 3:00pm and so far it was probably close to 1:00 pm so they had plenty of time for it.
"I still have time before they leave Stark tower is so big I'm not surprised if some other students 'got lost'." May remarked knowing that some kids were probably so tempted to wander off and cause trouble. But she was doing her best to defend herself as she saw James stand there...he seemed to have a familiar resemblance to captain America, was he his son? Even if James didn't wan to admit it here it was obvious.
"Well between being a super hero, school, and babysitting it isn't exactly easy to get around." May said knowing that James did have a point. "But when I have a free weekend I may pop in of course knocking this time." She added. But as she heard James speak up about the family part, she also saw him guesturing to walk. She wondered where he was taking him? What made things even more interesting to add to it was that her spidey sense hadn't gone off either. It would've if James had tried to hurt her or arrest her, so maybe something good was going to come out of it? As she thought about it, she finally accepted it, her backpack held the famous Spider-girl suit in her back side and was hidden under a couple of books.
"You have no idea." She said with a bit of a soft nod. "you know Scarlet Spider, the fellow who is in a red and black suit? He's my uncle. There's also another Spider hero who is my other uncle as well who goes by Spider-Man also. So we're out and about all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if you ran into one of them." May pointed out and couldn't help but ask. "I know this is probably an obvious question but where are we going?" She added. "Also you can call me May instead of ms Parker it sounds too much like my mother." May pointed out knowing even she tried to distance herself so she could have her own super hero career.
"There are reasons SHIELD isn't exactly welcomed May. I can guarantee you if you looked at their history, you wouldn't be so keen to probably join them either." James explained to her, not being afraid to make it clear SHIELD had crossed far too many lines, had undermined many for their own ends to ever make amends for such things. The ones who wouldn't probably be penalized were some of the heroes currently working for SHIELD. Even the Web Warriors had their times where they might as well have operated alone from the organization in his opinion.
He gave her a sidelong glance at her pointing out the tower was so big others would sneak away. "I'll let Jarvis handle those who sneak off. But I saw the name Parker and I decided to handle this one myself, I suspect eventually you'll be working with us one time or another if you haven't already." James told her. Even if she suspected who his family was, he wasn't so quickly to acknowledge his own resemblance. Truth be told, he usually tried not to say anything about such relations. "As for where we are going, figured I'd show you this floor. You came all this way and we have time to spare, figured I'd oblige your obvious scientific curiosity." Jame s told her, a hint of teasing in his tone towards the end. He wasn't entirely sure of May went for the sciences like her father, but he figured he could take a whack at making a joke.
"So you're an active hero like them." He concluded, mostly to himself, a bit curious about if she followed the spider legacy herself. "I'm pretty sure you've guessed who's kid I am." James seemed less than enthused about his family compared to her own. "My genetic father is Captain America and my genetic mother is Black Widow. Guess mine is a bit complicated too." Yea, it was really something he hated touching upon, mostly for the fact people tended to compare him so much to his parents, especially those who had created him.
"I understand that not everyone likes SHIELD it's plastered all over the news." May said. "Though my father thought it was a good idea that we join the Web Warriors since we're very common with our powers and our believes. Even if we don't always get along." May pointed out knowing that SHIELD can be a big pain but there were reasons for most of their 'madness' even the Web warriors had helped out in unexpected times. "I don't know if the Avengers have enough Spiders though." She said with a shrug knowing her father had been a temporary helper to the team as well but it was clear he preferred a solo act from time to time. She also tried to make a bit of a joke out of it too at least to calm any tension.
"Well that certainly is nice of you but I'll be sure to slip back to the others before the class trip notices I'm missing." May said knowing she didn't want to get into any trouble nor wanted to get a detention from her school that would obviously look bad on her part. May nodded when she looked over James as he spoke up about his family. Though May's was different with their spidery legacy most of them got along-of course there was grumpy Kaine. "Well we can't pick our families unfortunately James." May said as she thought about something.
"I'll tell you what James. How about you meet me in Central Park this weekend, and I can give you an exciting afternoon of no super hero business for letting me explore the Tower without being caught. Does that sound like a plan?" May asked. Of course May would bring her suit in case any danger came but there were other super heroes out there who could have a shot at the danger. If May and James wanted to do that they certainly could. But there was no escaping the spidey sense unfortunately that would be there for her powers.
"Look, the Web Warriors are one thing May. You guys have often worked outside of SHIELD and not just for them, its the rest of the organization people don't like, and with good reason. SHIELD has burned many bridges and not all of them are all for seeing beyond what benefits themselves." James pointed out. Perhaps the only saving grace SHIELD had from being different than that of HYDRA or AIM was that they mostly cared about human life and had made attempts to save the world in some way. They had some unsavory methods, but nothing to the drastic extent the rest went to.
He gave her a look, having a feeling she probably could. But then again he probably would escort her back to the class himself, just so she could face a little fame and trouble at the same time. "Yea, no way am I letting you sneak back off by yourself. If I left you unattended I would be the one in trouble for letting you wander around freely." James told her firmly. She had been the one to wander off this far, there was going to be some rules she was going to follow whether she liked it or not, regardless if she was a hero herself or not. Though his gaze went forward again with a hard look, "Perhaps. But neither do I have to acknowledge the family I have been claimed to have. They are simply my genetic parents, that does not necessarily mean I have to accept them as my real" parents." James muttered, less than willing to ever acknowledge the Rogers family.
Though as he listened to her offer, his smile returned once more having that playful edge to it. "Actually have a meeting outside heroics? Sounds good, we have a date then." He assured her, his playful tone returning and figured it might earn him a light punch to the arm. But it would be worth it.
"I understand I've heard my father give good remarks about them but even he had his quarrels with Fury himself on how things should be run. I guess I should at least keep some of an open mind." May said. "And be wary at the same time." She added as she looked back at James taking the warning that he was giving, at least that was how she felt like it was.
"I wouldn't wander for that long, I'd have to go back before the bus takes us back to the high school. Then I'd be ditching school which wouldn't look good." May pointed out knowing the consequences were still there. As she stood there she walked with James wondering where they were going to go after them. "I understand everyone has their own views on their parents. Some are horrible while others are actually pretty good." May said knowing after been in SHIELD for so long while she heard that some tragic stories of other SHIELD agents who had been there. Some actually had decent pasts while they accidentally had trouble come their way and they got their powers. May had been one of those who had her powers inherited through Peter, the same spider venom ran through her body that ran through his. Now her brother would probably be no different.
"Good then. I'll text you a day or two to make sure you can still actually make it. I hope I'm not actually wasting time." May said as she gave him a soft smile. "Now come on we'll tour the rest of the floor then I should get back while I still can." she admitted as she glanced out a nearby window seeing that the bus was still there and she had time to get back to it. The other option was swinging her way through a cold New York to reach her school. "So James what do you actually like about the Avengers? It sounds like family and security isn't on your favorite side, anyone can observe that." She asked figuring she might as well get a couple of questions from him to get to know him a little bit better. "You can ask me a thing or two if you want. I don't bite like actual spiders." She joked.
“Even if you didn’t intend to wander for long, I still am keeping an eye on you May. Trust me, I’m far better company than an annoyed Tony Stark or one of the more stern Avengers, they would have taken you right back already.” James pointed out. He more than knew how stern the older Avengers could be, especially with recent events and him pressing himself too hard before he had completely recovered. He couldn’t name the number of times his genetic father or other adults had made it clear he needed to stop pushing himself so hard and actually relax. Something that was easier said than done in his opinion.
Though he smiled as he took out his phone, “Probably should exchange numbers then, otherwise that might be awkward.” He joked, offering his phone to her so she could put her name in it if she wished. If not, he could always do it himself. But, he really had no destination in mind as they walked, he was mostly trying to avoid May getting into bigger trouble than someone such as him finding her. Honestly, he also wanted excuse not to go back to doing monitor duty for a while, even though Jarvis probably was keeping an eye on them as they walked now.
“What I like to do?” For a moment, James actually had to think. Anything he actually liked to do wasn’t exactly civilian hobbies, much of it included his heroic career, and being prepared for whatever happened. Well, now that was just sad when he thought about it. “Honestly, I like training and being prepared. I never really got into anything beyond some sports, but I prefer martial arts and gymnastics the most, just in general preparing for whatever could come our way as heroes.” James answered after a bit, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. “Honestly, a normal life has never been for someone like me, because I’ve never known a normal life.” He admitted.
"Though it would be a bit cool seeing Ironman, or Thor. I just wouldn't want to get on their bad sides of being kicked out by security." May admitted, knowing there was a bad side to everything. She listened to James as he spoke up, admitting that it might've been a good thing that he met her first before the main avengers did. "Of course, we can exchange numbers. I usually can be reached except of course in important situations as spider girl." May said knowing that James probably could understand. She carefully typed in the name to make sure that he got the correct one and nothing in mistake. It only seemed fair that she handed him his phone and she took out her phone so James could do the same.
"Really? I mean you don't go to school or anything? I'm almost done with school and will be focusing on college soon and looking for a job too...I mean besides being Spider-Girl that is." May pointed out knowing that her father struggled at first for some time being Spider-Man and it seemed that May might as well be down in the same falling as her father did. However he did get help from Aunt May and his friends. "I suppose not everyone is up for school though. Other people have found their own callings, so I shouldn't have rushed to a conclusion like that." May admitted, as she felt like she had to apologize but her first mistake had been wandering off from her school group. May might have been a 'perfect school girl,' but every once in a while, she needed to do something different.
As she did see the time on the phone realizing what it was getting to be she realized she might have to go back by now before the crowd left her there. Of course she could've swung back as Spider-Girl seeing that might help her there. "I should probably get back, James do you want to escort me to the front?" She asked. "Since you've been so nice, showing me around I figured this wouldn't hurt." She said although he might've recognized a bit of sarcasm even if it was only a slight of it.
James returned May's phone before handing her his, letting May do the same thing. But her question about him not going to school made James realize he never once thought of an answer if this did pop up. Only the Avengers knew why he never had a normal life, and that having a normal life would pretty much be out of the question for sometime. Not until he better learned to balance his heroics and being a civilian, which was difficult to do when his rebellious tendencies clashed with the strict rules governed by the Avengers.
"I, uh..." James' mind went blank for a split second before he thought of an excuse, "I've just been home schooled that's all. I mean, with who my parents are and how I came to be it seemed the mos logical thing to do was for me to remain home and learn that way. And trust me, its better this way." James told her, almost too quickly and dismissively. It was clear the young man just didn't want to reveal anything of his past to someone he had just met. He could tell May was trustworthy and he probably could trust her with his life. But, he had also just met her. So, that part of his training was kicking in with the young Rogers being cautious for the time being until him and May knew each other on better terms.
"Why of course Madame Spider, I'd be happy to give you a royal escort." James said with a mocking tone and bowing to add to the effect. He could hear her sarcasm and he couldn't help with his own response in kind, only smirking slightly. "Come on Parker, just try not to fall behind." James mused, heading to the elevator nearby and stepping in, waiting for May to join him before he pressed the button for the first floor.
