"The way you make it sound, it may not be worth coming to all this irritation and heartache." Valrulfur retorted, not finding any real reason to remain there. If he was Rebecca he would have kicked this dump and remained among the X-men. Some of them were...stubborn, but at least they wouldn't be in a constant drunk stupor like half these men were. He gave some a side glance, noticing one or two were alert and tense, watching his every move while most of their companions were drunk and maybe other things, making him snort softly.
"I'm a death agent, in case you're wondering why I'm so interested." Valrulfur finally explained, standing to follow her towards the door. "My interest here is collecting souls to bring to my mistress, Hela, of the Asgardian underworld. Well, the wandering souls that Death herself does not claim. It was why I was drawn here, I can sense souls and my job is to take them for the next time I make a trip back to Hel." He was giving the best explanation he could to why he was there, not entirely going into the full details of why he was a death agent or why she had dropped him off there on Midgard. He was giving as much as he was willing without Rebecca maybe asking a million more questions.
Though, he did give her a side glance as they stepped out onto the porch. "But, out of respect for an...ally, I will be mindful of your mother's own grave." He told her gruffly, knowing there was only so much of a courtesy he could extend without ending up punished for ignoring a potential wandering soul.

"Thank you Valrufur for a man who has such a hard task on their hands I see you a bit of a gentleman side in you too." Rebecca said with a soft smile towards Valrufur that he would respect his mother's grave. To be honest she wasn't sure if her mom was in spirit form or not there, or a ghost if you wanted to call it. Gambit didn't seem to believe this type of thing either, in fact she really wasn't sure what her father believed in at this point. "I still feel like I should go to make sure I have paid over due respects towards my mother. It's the least I should do." Rebecca explained towards him.
"I understand your job must be a tough one. I've heard of Hela through the myths and legends through Thor and Loki but I guess they're just more than legends." She added having heard many from the Avengers and through many stories that her parents told her as well. Suppose all of those things were really real, she'd start believing in them as far as she was concerned.
It wasn't long before they headed outside onto the street, it was dark out at this point and many others were walking it. Rebecca hadn't seen that purse snatcher from earlier so that must've been a good sign. The police were actually able to catch up to him and put them in jail. The night was a lot quieter despite having the usual civillian around. Once Rebecca reached the side walk she took a turn and waited for the light to turn to the human figure to let them walk across as traffic went. "Well we could fly there. I am able to do it, but it could attract attention too and I don't exactly want to do that." Rebecca observed knowing it might take them a bit to get there if Valrufur was really in a hurry flying might be the best bet, she could probably pick him up with ease.
"I didn't use to be this way Rebecca, I use to be a proud Asgardian warrior and I use to go by Forseti." Valrulfur admitted, sighing slightly since that seemed something foreign to think of, much less say. Few knew who he truly use to be and that sometimes his old self did shine through in some situations, but it was not often. In this case, it did since he did not wish to insult or anger someone who could potentially become a valuable asset while he was here. Rebecca could not be everywhere, but she would be a good stepping stone to understanding this place.
He paused when they came to a spot that required them to wait, but his impatience was already beginning to show at all these Midgardian contraptions and customs. "Well, depending on what you've heard some of them hold a grain of truth. I have heard that your legends usually have some origin of where their myths and legends came from." He said, crossing his arms as he was debating on her offer to fly or not. Honestly, the whole flying thing had never been his forte and he would never understand those who would consider flying to be the best form of transportation.
"I'm not really favored towards flying." He spoke, growling as he shifted back to his werewolf form and startling a few passerbys once more. "Fly if you want, but I'm not going to be waiting." He told her as he moved onto all fours and took off across the street the moment one car was finishing passing, causing another to screech to a halt, honking loudly that made him flinch slightly from the sound. So much for sensitive hearing being useful in a place like this,

"You're probably right on that. Some legends are probably true." Rebecca agreed with him giving him a soft nod. "And here I thought the Lebeau family had a way of leaving and exiting." Rebecca said as she flashed the car a look of surprise but there wasn't any sign of apology. It wasn't going to be her ground for that. And so she began to kick off the ground with her feet as she flew through the air, it seemed like a gift that she had gained from her mother Rogue when she first discovered her powers. She could see Valrufur below with his incredibly fast speed on all fours. Rebecca had no problem keeping up with him from high above as she didn't loose sight of him.
And further along the path they could see the grave yard not far from where they were. It was probably a street or two away in the area of distance. Rebecca knew that the graveyard was closed by now since sunset was several hours ago. However she had a feeling that wasn't going to keep Valrufur from going on in. He appeared to be determined to do his job. She didn't blame him for this. Though his words from earlier were still playing in her head. Maybe it was time she returned to the mansion, it had been awhile since she had been there. Her father seemed fine here, and she had hoped to convince him to come back. That might be harder than it sounded. If he didn't, she would just end it at that.
After flying for a little longer she flew down at the entrance of the grave yard, already she couldn't help but feel the graves were awaken tonight, "We're here." She said crossing her arms softly waiting for him to arrive. Valrufur probably beat her there for all she knew.
Valrulfur dodged around some people in the streets, jumped over outside eating areas, and jumped on top of cars as he moved along the few blocks necessary. Already his eyes were glowing green, sensing a fair bit of souls lurking about close by and it was no doubt a sign they were close to the nearest grave yard. He landed at the gate soon enough, one ear twitching backwards as he heard Rebecca not far behind, giving the gate a quick sniff noticing the chains ensuring no one would be able to get in. No one normal that was.
"I thought fliers were faster." He remarked as he eyed the padlock, tapping it a few times before snorting softly and tearing it right off the chains and dropping it at his feet. "Midgardian security is quite flimsy, I would think there would be better means of protecting a sacred place." He said towards the mutant girl, feeling less than impressed as he pushed the gate open and walked right in, sniffing the air but smelling nothing out of the ordinary. But his eyes remained a glow green, matching the soft green glow of the skull marking on the back of his neck, spying a spirit or two coming and going about, seeming to not quite be aware of their living presence. "Promising start." He said to himself, finally turning to face Rebecca.
"Pay your respects while I do what I need to. I recommend remaining out of my way." Valrulfur's tone was dismissive and firm, indicating he wouldn't exactly tolerate a distraction on her part as he didn't even bother to wait for a real answer. Instead, he began stalking further into the grave yard, seeming to be peering at the spirits wandering, his mark glowing brighter on occasion as he absorbed some of the more stronger spirits that could prove to be a concern.

"I'll keep that in mind, if you need me or want to come back you know where to find me." Rebecca added and took the warning pretty well as they entered into the graveyard. She let Valrufur do her thing as she went through the various graves with all their names. At one point these were all living, walking and breathing people. One day they were alive and living on the Earth just as she was. Finally she reached the area where the name etched on the Marble that read "Anna Marie." And right below it is said Rogue. There was an empty plot right next to it where Gambit's grave was, he had bought out the area for the both of them so they could rest side by side when they were done.
Still it made her wonder what had happened. Rebecca was pretty young when her mother died, probably too young to understand what had happened. "Heay mom it's good to see you again...Sorta I guess." She said finding it odd that she was talking to the grave. After she was done updating her on what was happening, Rebecca noticed a nearby tree that looked decent to climb. She however cheeted as she went up and flew towards the top with one decent bound as she rested there.
She didn't mind waiting for Valrufur to finish his job, he seemed to be wanted to be left alone for a bit. "Are you done?" She asked, curious but not impatient. She was thinking she had heard him come over where she was in the tree. Then again she found it hard to believe that some human would come out in this area. But if there was no response, she took out a stack of cards that her father had left her. And his signature one had been the Queen of hearts, there was no doubt one in this deck as she shuffled through them just like how her father had taught her.
While Rebecca took her time in speaking with her deceased mother, if that was really possible, Valrulfur was carefully doing his own form of hunting. He tracked the stronger spirits, not really concerning himself with the weaker, less intelligent spirits who hardly seemed to react to his presence at all. They would be a waste of time and of little concern to his Mistress, so he was concerning himself with the much more aware and stronger spirits. Though they might prove to be something of a serious power boost for him, maybe even to the point he could free himself from this contract, he had no such intentions.
Satisfied he had gotten a majority of the souls necessary, he finally turned his attentions back to where Rebecca was, at first not seeing her at the grave any longer. For a moment he wondered if she left rather than wait, until he heard her curious question and followed it to where he found her in a nearby tree. "I'm done with this one." He answered her, coming to stand beneath the tree to peer up at the mortal woman and giving her a shrug. "If you have somewhere to be, then by all means do not allow me to keep you." He told her, his tail swishing back and forth, once more looking at the cemetery.
"This job isn't simply a few souls absorbed and then I can call it quits. There are still a handful more graveyards I must visit, more time spent hunting." He gave a slight shake of his head, "In a sense I am done, but at the same time I will never be done."

Rebecca looked up as Valrufur announced that he was done with this graveyard. It was hard to believe that he did something like this. She had heard that people had gifts of seeing ghosts or even being able to talk to them. She thought that was interesting. But something that she had yet to see herself. She heard Valrufur speak up about not letting her stay behind. To be honest, she didn't mind staying and 'helping' if that was the word here. She wasn't sure what it was. Maybe just 'tagging along for the ride', was a better phrase?
"Well I don't really have anywhere to go, I'm planning on going back to the X-Mansion this weekend seeing that my dad doesn't need me." Rebecca said as she crossed her arms. After seeing that Valrufur was done she jumped down from the tree with relative ease and the cards in one hand. The cards were still there in her hands, she was careful getting down without hurting herself. By this time he had returned over to the tree as she stood a bit of a distance away from them to give the two of them space.
"There is one a couple miles of here, we could travel there if you want. Most of the graveyards are above ground here to avoid flooding that we have." Rebecca pointed out since the area in New Orleans was pretty flat. Not to mention in the past they lost a lot of graves since the deadly hurricanes that came around. Rebecca tried to get out of the area when those did, and she wished her father did too. But there was no way of convincing the stubborn man. "But it sounds like you'll be doing this job for the rest of eternity, long after I'm gone, no offense." She said wondering if that was what Valrufur really wanted to do with his life. It sounded like a job that was rough. Seeing all the deceased souls. but she did notice that the graveyard was a bit quieter than normal. Well perhaps the spirit side was quiet anyways.
"What exactly is it you could do to help? You can't see, hear, feel, or touch the dead, you'll just be in the way if you kept tagging along." Valrulfur scoffed, knowing the only real way she could help is if she had abilities similar to his own or could sense the dead in some way. Perhaps she could absorb some of his powers but that would mean he would be stuck with a mortal for a while, something he really didn't want to deal with. He always heard a little help goes a long way but this was something he did not want to have help with, or someone being distracting to what he needed to get done.
He crossed his arms then, "All eternity is pushing it. Asgardians do have long lives but we could always be slain in battle just like a Midgardian can. At the moment, I can easily be killed and I would return to the realm of Hel for a few days before I recovered and came back." He told her, trying to keep his waning patience down since he knew he was wasting time continuing to talk with Rebecca. "But I really have no choice but to be in this contract. I was on the verge of dying from an attack many years ago from our enemies, if not for my Mistress I would not even be standing before you right now. I would be in Valhalla's halls, among the famed heroes and away from...all of this." Would Valrulfur ever like what he did? He was doubtful.
The only benefits to this was that he could come back each time something bad happened and he could travel beyond Asgard's realm, to interact with beings or people he never would have met due to his former duties. Whether he missed that life was another matter entirely and to Valrulfur was his business.
